The perfect accompaniment to steak and chops. The onion rings are golden and crisp, plus they are super easy to make.

What you’ll love: There is nothing quite like that crispy crunchy goodness of a homemade onion ring.

Ingredients:

  • What you'll need
  • 4 Onions, Brown
  • 1000ml Cake flour, divided into two bowls
  • 10ml Salt, fine
  • 120ml Corn flour
  • 20ml Paprika, smoky
  • 12ml Oregano, dried
  • 12ml Garlic powder
  • 4ml Black pepper, cracked
  • 16ml Baking powder
  • 480ml Beer, Lager
  • 1000ml CHALMAR Farm Kitchen beef dripping

Method

Peel and trim the onions and cut each onion into 1 cm slices.

Place the cut onions in a large mixing bowl and cover with iced water. Allow to soak for 3-5 minutes, drain well and set aside.

Mix 500 ml flour with 5 ml salt in a bowl.
In a separate bowl combine remaining flour, corn flour, paprika, oregano, garlic, remaining salt, pepper and baking powder. Mix well until all the ingredients are combined. Whisk the beer in the flour mixture to make a smooth batter.

Heat the dripping over a medium high heat in a small saucepan until it starts to bubble.

Coat each onion ring in the flour mixture, then dip into the batter and deep-fry until golden brown and crispy. Drain on kitchen paper. Sprinkle with salt before serving.
